High School Les Vinyes has appointed an International Project Coordinator, as part of our commitment to the implementation of European mobility activities for secondary education and vocational studies. Three hours of her weekly timetable are devoted to activities such as promoting student and staff mobility, as well as language exchanges. This person has the support of the Vocational Training coordinator.

Knowledge and use of different languages has become a basic need and a right for citizens of a global society such as ours. For this reason, we have requested for the next school year (2016-2017) to be part of a GEP ("Experimental Group for Multilingualism"). The aim is to promote International mobility and to create resources in English to implement its use in secondary and short cycle subjects.

This year we are taking part in a KA1 Erasmus Plus VET project called "Subiendo al Puig Castellar", in collaboration with High School Puig Castellar, High School La Bastida and Mundus Association.

The project will last two years and will provide International mobilities opportunities for 29 VET students and 1 VET teacher.

The expected results are to internationalize the high schools of Sta Coloma, to improve education and to provide more opportunities for students through a new youth policy, promoted by the council, youth groups and schools.

 

INSTITUTION'S  INTERNATIONAL STRATEGY

Our institution's international strategy is as follows:

Our school is situated in the district of Singuerlín, in Santa Coloma de Gramenet.

Until the internal migration that took place from the 50s ‘till the 80s, Santa Coloma was a quite small village near Barcelona. Starting from the 1950s, Santa Coloma became a big city with almost 120.000 inhabitants. In the last decades, Santa Coloma has received a lot of migrants from other countries such as Morocco, India and South America. The percentage of immigrant students in our school is approximately 20 %, mainly from Morocco, followed by South and Central America, India and Pakistan.

In view of this multiculturalism, our main objectives were:

•To promote the use of foreign languages (especially English) as a tool for learning and communication.

•To facilitate our students’ social integration by providing them with the resources necessary to communicate and interact in a multilingual society.

•To foster professional mobility among students in such a socio-economic disadvantaged area.

•To offer a more attractive Vocational Training in order to arouse people’s interest to achieve higher levels of education.

•To increase the percentage of graduates in Higher Vocational Training, the levels of performance and the relevance of the training provided.

•To improve student's cultural knowledge, to get to know other cultures and other costumes and to appreciate and respect the cultural differences among countries.

a) Selection of partners.
We select our partners:

• By consulting with our local partners (Mundus, Municipality, Puig Castellar, La Bastida). International partner that already worked valuably with one of our local ones are most welcomed.

• By using web sites like Etwinning.

• By looking on the web for schools similar to ours, both socially and academically.

• By the help of local institutions with which we already have a relation.

Our partners must be high quality institutions with reliable references of internationalization, professionalism, creativity, innovation and good technological level, mainly in Health sector.

b) Geographical areas:

Generally speaking, we consider schools from areas with social situations similar to us. However, as we are very interested in multiculturalism and learning from different environments, we judge positively to find a partner school or company from a completely different social background from ours.

Language strategy:

Our strategy choosing our geographical areas has the following priorities:

- European and non European countries with Spanish, English, French, German and Italian language as main or second

language. Those languages are most spoken at EU level and therefore the most valuable for working purposes.

c)The most important objectives and target groups of our mobility activities:

Our objectives are the ones already mentioned above: we would like to promote the use of foreign languages as a tool for learning and communication, and also as a tool to foster professional Erasmus mobility as part of a wider employment strategy.

The strategy of the center in relation to the organization and implementation of international cooperation projects (EU and non-EU) for education and training are:

- Cooperation Strategies: the center develops various actions belonging to educational or professional associations in the Health sector that will allow us, in turn, to develop various cooperation projects.

- Creation of informal networks between vocational training centers, both domestic and international, that allow us to share experiences cooperatively.

- Making agreements with high-level technology companies to improve the quality of our training.

 

POLICY OBJECTIVES

Participating in the Erasmus + Programme will have a great impact on the modernisation and internalisation of our institution.

Cooperation with other European institutions or companies will broaden our students' minds and create an awareness of European culture, which is otherwise difficult in a cultural environment like ours.

Our main aims:

1) Increase performance levels to meet the needs of graduates and researchers, using a wider curriculum provided by the Erasmus mobility, which includes an improved language skills, increased knowledge of other realities and expanding professional knowledge international situation in a connected world.

We expect students of Higher Vocational Education involved in international mobility programs to improve their level of professional qualification and expand their employment opportunities.

2) Improve the quality and relevance of higher education, through the knowledge and use of new tools, new working philosophies and diversity provided by our knowledge of other realities than the national one. We hope that students and staff of the center involved in the mobility will be an example of quality improvement.

3) Strengthening quality of educational methods through mobility and cross-border cooperation by increasing the number of pupils and staff participating in various international programs, both as visitors and hosts. In the future, this will leave to improved employment chances for students and teachers.
